The identity of Bitcoin’s founder has long been shrouded in mystery and intrigue, and to this day it is still unknown if the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto is an individual or a collective.

Bitcoin’s Beginning:
In 2008 a white paper, titled “Bitcoin:A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash
System”, was published by Nakamoto. In it, they outlined the tenets of a decentralized digital currency that would bypass intermediaries like banks or governments, and the first Bitcoin was mined on January 3, 2009.

What’s Known about Satoshi Nakamoto?
Their true identity remains unknown to this day, but certain characteristics have been speculated on.

Described as a “preternaturally talented computer coder”, Bitcoin was created with 31,000 lines of code. There is also a widely held understanding that Nakamoto is a cryptography expert, due to the extensive computer science skill and knowledge displayed in Bitcoin’s creation.

And the underlying philosophy of Bitcoin as well as its creation in the first place indicate libertarian leanings.

Who Might It Be?
Numerous theories have abounded over the years about Nakamoto’s identity.

A number of individuals -  a Japanese-American physicist called Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamaoto, American computer scientist Nick Szabo and Canadian software developer Peter Todd - have all denied being Nakamoto, while claims from an Australian computer scientist called Craig White were recently debunked.

Whoever Nakamoto is, their impact on the world of technology and finance has been truly revolutionary.
